On August 6 and 7, 2024, 17 women firefighters from 12 countries met at Roche, in Basel, including a short visit by the CTIF Vice President Christophe Marshal on Tuesday morning.
CTIF's Commission for Women in Fire and Rescue Services meets once a year somewhere in the world for a two-day conference.
Throughout the year, they hold regular online meetings.
These meetings are used for international exchange on a wide variety of topics that affect women firefighters.
After the weekend the host Mireille Glauser was able to show Basel and Switzerland to two early arrivals - from Ireland and Canada – on Monday she picked each of participants up personally at the airport.
The meeting opened with Swiss guest member Mireille Glauser's presentation on the pharmaceutical company ROCHE and its private onsite professional fire department. ROCHE was also hosting the meeting.
This was followed by a round of introductions of the participants and presentations on various organizations (Ireland, Sweden, Greece).
From the Netherlands came the exciting presentation: Water, friend or foe.
The first day ended with the impressive view from ROCHE's Building 2 and a bit of history in Building 1.
Day two was opened by an ergonomist from Roche, with a contribution on the subject of "Strong back - strong performance".
The next topic was a presentation on bullying prevention training from Canada, followed a little later by a similar topic from Germany: guidelines for combating sexual harassment, discrimination and bullying.
Greece presented the seasonal forest fire unit and Slovenia held a presentation on their experiences from the recent floods.
In the end of the meeting, there was sadly only very little time left to present the beautiful fire station with its impressive fleet of vehicles from the host.
