On February 11, 2025, a significant fire erupted in the Renoir Tower II, a 51-story luxury residential building in Buenos Aires' upscale Puerto Madero neighbourhood. The fire started around noon, local time, on the 11th floor.
The fire reportedly started in a mechanical room housing the building's air conditioning units, and rapidly spread to higher floors.
Emergency services evacuated over 100 residents. Approximately 40 people received treatment for smoke inhalation, with three requiring hospitalization.
Alberto Crescenti, head of the city's Emergency Medical Assistance Service (SAME), confirmed that more than 30 emergency units, including firefighters and local police, responded to the incident.
Diego Coria, chief of the Buenos Aires City Police Fire Squad, noted that the mechanical room's ceiling vents facilitated the fire's spread to other floors. The exact cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Renoir Tower II, completed in 2012, stands at 172 meters (564 feet) and is among the tallest residential buildings in Buenos Aires. Apartments in the tower are valued at over $1 million, reflecting its status as a symbol of luxury in the city.
Authorities are conducting a thorough investigation to determine the cause of the fire and assess the extent of the damage.
