A fire destroyed the largest recycling facility in Paris on Monday evening. 200 firefighters and 60 fire trucks were dispatched to the scene.

A large black cloud of smoke was reported to cover large parts of the city.  According to the French newspaper Le Monde, the fire involved  the city's largest recycling facility.

The public was urged to stay away from the area and allow the emergency services to work. All staff were safely evacuated, and no injuries were reported, according to Euro News. 

200 firefighters and 60 fire trucks were deployed to fight the fire, which started on Monday evening, according to France 24. 

The fire was brought under control just before midnight, but extinguishing personnel on site said work would continue for several hours.

Geoffrey Boulard, the mayor of the affected arrondissement, stated to the French TV channel BFM television that the facility was completely but that all staff inside had been evacuated. 

"Firefighters arrived very quickly, but the fire happened underground and then spread through the building," Boulard told BFM television 

The CEO of the facility reported that 31 people were inside the 12,000-square-meter building when the fire started, but no injuries have been reported.

Residents in the area near the fire were advised to remain indoors.
