Two firefighters never made it out when old brownstone factory collapsed after a violent fire

UNITED STATES: A building collapsed with four firefighters inside on Thursday afternoon. Two firefighters didn´t make it out and the York City Fire and Rescue Department is now in a state of grief, reports American Fox Baltimore News

According to officials, two York City Firefighters died after the fourth floor of the former Weaver Organ and Piano Factory building collapsed on top of them and two other firefighters while they were searching the building for the source of hotspots that had been flaring up since last night.

York City Fire Department had been on scene since 5 p.m. Wednesday when flames first broke out at the building on 409 East Philadelphia Street.

The two surviving firefighters who were trapped inside the building were rescued and taken to hospital for medical treatment.

As is the custom in American media, the two fallen colleges were identified and their names and photos published within hours after the tragic accident:

Anthony had been with the fire department since August 2010 and is remembered as the person you would want to have on your team.

Flanscha was a decorated 20-year veteran of the York City Fire Department and had been awarded the York City Fire Department's "Firefighter of the Year" award. He also holds Chief's Commendations and several other awards.

Flanscha and Anthony were both featured in a national commercial for Wahl Professional.

“We are terribly saddened for the loss suffered by the family, friends, and fellow firefighters of Ivan and Zachary. This marks a tragic day in York’s history.”
