A 37-year-old firefighter was killed in the line of duty, Thursday evening
after he fell heavily in to a lift shaft inside a burning crystal shop in south of
Tehran.
The brave firefighter, Morteza Heidari, was deployed to a shopping center fire alarm at 8:30 p.m. local time.
While at the scene, operational teams from 3 stations made forced entry in to the shop by cutting the automatic doors of the center, as needed to gain access to the structure. Heidari entered the burning building to extinguish the fire, using BA and complete PPE.
Being exposed to extreme heat, smoke and fumes, he suddenly fell 4 meters down a lift shaft and landed in the basement. Other members of the team tried hard to rescue him and finally managed to bring him out of the building.
He was transported to the hospital where he unfortunately passed away from his serious injuries.
Morteza Heidari was a determined, devoted man who joined TFD in 2009 as a career firefighter.
"He gave his life as hero to protect people’s lives and properties. He was married and the father of a 7-year-old boy. May Morteza Heidari never be forgotten and his memory ever remain in our hearts", said Tehran Fire Department in a statement to CTIF just days after the incident.
